Nestled in the scenic rural valley of Penrose, Colorado, Bugling Elk Vineyards offers more than just fine wines—it tells a story of dedication, perseverance, and a passion for excellence. Established in 2017, the vineyard reflects the journey of its owner and operator, a retired Green Beret with 26 years of service in the U.S. Army, most of which were spent with the prestigious 10th Special Forces Group.

Drawing from the discipline and resilience honed during his military career, the owner brings the same commitment to cultivating grapes and crafting exceptional wines. The name “Bugling Elk” pays homage to Colorado’s majestic wildlife, a symbol of strength and endurance that mirrors his own journey.

Every bottle from Bugling Elk Vineyards captures the essence of Colorado’s unique terroir, combining the rugged beauty of the Rockies with the meticulous craftsmanship of a soldier-turned-vintner. Whether you’re savoring a glass of Cabernet Doré or exploring their bold reds, you’ll taste a blend of tradition, innovation, and the indomitable spirit of the Special Forces.

Grape Culture

The Kauffmans are hoping to continue building a more pronounced grape and wine culture in Fremont County which they came to love while stationed in Germany. Being around grapes, producing wine, and sharing a glass of wine has always been a great way to spend quality time with friends and family. We hope you enjoy our wine with your friends and family.

Let’s meet up in real life to share a wide variety of our wine selection!
